A THOUSAND SHORES was recorded in just 9 days @ sonic one studios in Llangenech, Wales with the incredibly talented (and speedy ;) Tim Hamill. A staggering amount of work was done in just over a week- drums, percussion, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, lap steel, mandolin, wurlitzer, hammond organ, piano, vocals and backing vocals...phew...9 days, 13 original songs undertaken and 10 completed.  But perhaps the most interesting thing about the production of A THOUSAND SHORES is that nobody apart from Ayesha had heard the material before recording began. Not something that is generally practiced as it is a potential recipe for disaster and additional expense. But due to time and financial constraints it was the only approach possible. And it certainly made things interesting as the band didn't hear the songs as songs until the final mixes. They really were flying blind.

It was Ayesha's clear vision of her material, Tim Hamill's talent and the exceptional musicianship within her band that brought A THOUSAND SHORES together against all odds. Ayesha walked her band through each song from the control room as they performed, following charts. This was a far cry from the organic manifestation of her music that Ayesha had envisaged- but each band member willingly 'let go' and immersed themselves in the 'feel' of A THOUSAND SHORES and she is immensely proud of her entirely self-funded project. No label, no backing- just hard graft and planning, along with the eternal optimism and support of husband, guitarist and artist Mark Pontin.Ayesha and the band boys were also very busy playing gigs by night throughout recording. In the studio from 10 'til 7 and then off to bookings across the country. This definitely took it's toll on Ayesha's voice and she fell ill prior to her vocal session. But with a little bit of faith and a lot of ginger tea managed to get the album sung within its very unforgiving time frame. 'Dashboard Jesus' was done in just one take.A THOUSAND SHORES is an album of many flavours, blending romantic and nostalgic americana, roots and gospel with modern country and blues. At it's heart it is a lyrically driven journey through stories of pain & survival, desire & yearning. May it take you somewhere...
